In an unusual move for summer, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area in Colorado will keep its slopes open through mid-June this year, offering skiers a rare chance to hit the snow just days before summer officially begins.
While most Colorado ski resorts ended their seasons back in April, Arapahoe Basin announced on June 4 that it will remain open for an additional two weekends. The ski area was already set to reopen for the weekend of June 6-8, and now plans to stay open the following weekend as well, from June 13-15.
The resort currently boasts a solid 41-inch base of snow. However, officials confirmed this will be the final extension of the season, with no further reopening planned.
Late-season closures are not unheard of for Arapahoe Basin. Last year, the resort closed on June 16, and the latest closing on record was August 10, 1995. Ski enthusiasts looking for extra spring turns should take advantage of this rare opportunity while it lasts.
