Reistadløpet, one of the toughest and most iconic races on the Ski Classics Pro Tour, returns on Saturday, March 28, 2026. As the 12th event of Season XVII, this 46-kilometer classic technique race takes place between Setermoen and Bardufoss in Northern Norway. Known for its stunning Arctic scenery, military heritage, and demanding course, the race includes 1,225 meters of climbing, reaching a high point of 567 meters above sea level.

The race starts in Setermoen, a garrison town in Bardu municipality. Skiers face a challenging route that begins with a sprint and then climbs the legendary Orta hill, considered one of the toughest climbs on the Pro Tour. Afterward, competitors ski across mountain plateaus before descending into Bardufoss in Målselv.

“Reistadløpet has become famous for its spectacular course on the Pro Tour,” said Ski Classics Director Oskar Svärd. “The Orta climb is perhaps the toughest on the whole tour. After that, the racers pass the lively crowd at Kampenhytta before facing the second big climb, Halvor Hill. The course also offers beautiful mountain views and often sightings of reindeer.”

A Race Rooted in Military History

The event dates back to 1958, honoring Colonel Ole Reistad, an Olympic gold medalist and Norwegian sports legend. The area around Setermoen is home to one of Norway’s oldest army camps. Many soldiers still take part in the race, sometimes wearing full military gear.

Remote Location, Easy Access

Though Bardufoss sits in the Arctic Circle, it is surprisingly easy to reach. The town has both civilian and military airports.

It is about 82 kilometers north of Narvik and 70 kilometers south of Tromsø, the largest city in Northern Norway. Setermoen and Bardufoss are small communities but offer breathtaking natural beauty that stays with visitors long after the race.
