Australia’s ski industry is hopeful for a better season after disappointing winters in recent years.
With King’s Weekend approaching, several ski resorts are preparing to open their slopes for skiing and snowboarding. A recent cold snap and snowfall have helped boost conditions, allowing some resorts to plan openings this weekend.
As of now, two resorts—Mt. Buller and Thredbo—have confirmed they will open for skiing and riding this weekend. Thredbo Resort will open on Saturday with the Easy Does It Chairlift and Magic Carpets running. Skiers and riders will have access to the Friday Flat trail and a small terrain park. The resort plans to open more terrain in the following week.
Ben Lomond will begin its winter operations on June 6th. However, it is unclear if skiing or snowboarding will be available on opening day, or if the resort will only offer snow play activities such as sledding.
Other resorts, including Perisher, Hotham Alpine Resort, and Falls Creek, are working to make snow using the cold temperatures. These Vail-owned resorts are aiming to open on June 7th, though specific trail and lift details have not yet been announced.
Skiers and snowboarders are eager to hit the slopes after a challenging few seasons, with early openings providing hope for a strong winter ahead.
