The Woodlands Township is celebrating National Bike Month this May with a full schedule of community events designed to promote cycling and encourage active transportation. In partnership with the Bike The Woodlands Coalition, the Township is hosting rides, tours, workshops, and family-friendly activities throughout the month.
Cyclists can take part in a wide range of events, including TXTRI Village Rides, the National Ride of Silence Day ride, a self-guided Bike to Work Day, and themed rides such as a sprayground cycle tour, a moonlight ride, and a nature ride. Several bicycle-related workshops will also be offered.
This year’s celebration follows a major recognition from the League of American Bicyclists, which awarded The Woodlands Township a Silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) designation. This honor makes The Woodlands the highest-rated bicycle-friendly community in Texas and reflects the Township’s dedication to creating safe, accessible, and sustainable cycling infrastructure for residents of all ages and abilities.
The month’s signature event, Bike The Woodlands Day, will take place on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park (6464 Creekside Forest Drive, 77389). The event will feature local cycling experts and enthusiasts representing all types of bikes—from mountain bikes to triathlon bikes, hybrids, and cruisers.
Winners of the Bike The Woodlands Ride Challenge and the Coalition’s first-ever scholarship competition will be recognized during the event. The first 150 attendees will receive a free snow cone from Kona Ice North Houston.
Bike The Woodlands Day will also offer a variety of ride options, including:
A 5.7-mile family-friendly pathway ride suitable for all ages.
A 15-mile road ride through the Village of Creekside Park for more experienced cyclists.
A moderate trail ride through the George Mitchell Nature Preserve, adjacent to the Recreation Center.
Bike Month activities are organized by The Woodlands Township in collaboration with the Bike The Woodlands Coalition. Sponsors include Bikeland of The Woodlands, Huntsman, and TXTRI.
Residents are encouraged to get involved, whether they’re seasoned cyclists or just beginning to explore the area’s extensive network of bike paths and trails.
