SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Saturday, 24 May 2025) – Sarah Young and Tim Bain have claimed victory in the Open division at the 2025 Queensland Surf Championships, securing their spots at the upcoming Australian Surf Championships in Wollongong.
The highly anticipated Open events delivered on expectations, with top surfers showcasing their skills in ideal four-foot waves at S-Bends Kawana. The clean surf conditions provided the perfect stage for elite shortboard performances.
Sarah Young was the first to clinch a title, taking out the women’s four-person final. She built a commanding lead early, needing only three waves during the 20-minute heat to hold off her competitors.
Young will join Gisele Sinclair, Giorgia Lorentson, and Ellie Graydon to represent Queensland at the Australian Shortboard Titles, set to run from 26 to 31 August in Wollongong, New South Wales.
In the men’s final, Tim Bain rose to the top in a close battle against Jye Pegg, Zane Jenner, and Zukas Loining. Both Bain and Pegg had impressed throughout the event, setting the stage for a competitive and exciting final showdown.
All finalists in both the men’s and women’s divisions have qualified to compete at the national level later this year.
The 2025 Queensland Surf Championships officially opened today on the Sunshine Coast. Over the next five days, surfers will compete across a range of disciplines, including Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP), Kneeboard, Longboard, Masters Shortboard, and Open Shortboard. These results will determine the full Queensland team for the national championships.
