HOUSTON — Relief from the scorching Texas heat is on the horizon. The highly anticipated HTX Surf Club, a state-of-the-art surf and action sports destination, is in development at Lake Houston, promising locals a year-round taste of the beach lifestyle.

Originally announced in 2022, the HTX Surf Club is a 5.5-acre aquatic complex being built within Generation Park, a master-planned community in northeast Houston. The facility will feature Wavegarden Cove technology, capable of generating between 400 to 700 waves per hour. Surfers of all skill levels can enjoy 20 different wave types, including point breaks and split peaks, with waves customizable up to seven feet tall.

Generation Park, developed by Houston-based McCord Development, is envisioned as a self-sufficient “15-minute city.” Since 2012, over $1.5 billion has been invested in building its infrastructure, which includes roads, trails, utilities, and commercial zones.

When completed, the area will include 700 acres of commercial property, 650 acres of parks and green spaces, and Redemption Square, a 52-acre mixed-use hub. Notable developments already underway or planned in the park include the San Jacinto College Center for Biotechnology, BioHub Two campus, a 1.4-million-square-foot Target distribution center, and a 4-mile pedestrian and bike path called “The Ray.”

Opening Timeline Pushed to 2027

While the HTX Surf Club was initially slated to open in 2024, its debut has been delayed. Reports suggested a potential 2025 launch, but in June 2025, the official HTX Surf Club Instagram account confirmed a new opening date: 2027.

Despite the delay, excitement continues to build. With cutting-edge surf technology, diverse amenities, and integration into one of Houston’s most ambitious developments, the HTX Surf Club aims to become a major recreational hub in the region.
