National Surfing Event Returns to Tannirbhavi Eco Beach from May 30 to June 1.
MANGALURU – The sixth edition of the Indian Open of Surfing (IOS), a premier national surfing competition, will be held at Tannirbhavi Eco Beach in Mangaluru from May 30 to June 1. The event is sanctioned by the Surfing Federation of India (SFI).
AV Ramana, Chairman of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), said the authority is proud to return as the title sponsor. “Our support for the Indian Open of Surfing reflects our commitment to community-focused initiatives that offer both economic and cultural value,” he said in a statement. “Surfing has the potential to position Mangaluru as a global hub for ocean sports and ecotourism. We’re looking forward to another impactful edition of the event.”
Mullai Muhilan MP, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, highlighted the continued support from Karnataka Tourism. “We are proud to be associated with the Indian Open of Surfing. The state is committed to encouraging adventure tourism and coastal development through platforms like this,” he said.
Arjun Ranga, Managing Partner of NR Group and Managing Director of Cycle Pure Agarbatti, also reiterated his company’s support. “Surfing reflects our brand values of harmony, sustainability, and community well-being. We are excited to see India’s top surfers in action,” he said.
Rammohan Paranjape, Vice President of the SFI and Director of Mantra Surf Club, said the IOS has grown every year thanks to strong backing from both government and private partners. “Hosting the competition on Karnataka’s beaches shows our dedication to developing local surf culture while offering a world-class sporting experience,” he said. “This year’s event will further raise India’s profile in the international surfing community.”
The 2024 edition of the NMPA IOS will feature top-ranked Indian surfers competing in four categories: Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Groms (Under-16) Boys, and Groms (Under-16) Girls.
