Lindsey Vonn made a remarkable return to alpine skiing in late 2024, nearly six years after retiring. Her comeback season showcased her determination as she faced challenges head-on.
At 40 years old, Vonn returned to competition following partial knee surgery. Despite the obstacles, she delivered a strong performance, securing second place in the Super-G at the 2025 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in Idaho. This achievement made her the oldest alpine skier to reach the podium in World Cup history. Over her career, Vonn has earned 28 Super-G wins and five Super-G titles.
Now enjoying her off-season, Vonn spoke with FIS Alpine about her 2024-25 season. She reflected openly on the difficult moments during her comeback.
One of the toughest races was at the Cortina d’Ampezzo World Cup, where she finished 20th. Vonn admitted she struggled near the end of the course, which was especially hard given her history there. Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of her most successful venues; before retiring in 2019, she had won 12 World Cup races on the Olympia delle Tofane course.
Despite the setbacks, Vonn’s comeback remains an inspiring testament to her resilience and passion for the sport.
