King Kekaulike High School secured both the boys’ and girls’ Maui Interscholastic League (MIL) surfing championships on Saturday at Hoʻokipa Beach Park, marking the end of the 2025 season.

The Na Ali‘i boys’ team dominated all four meets this year, claiming their third MIL title in the past four years. The girls’ team, with a strong finish, won three out of four contests to capture their first championship. This victory was especially meaningful for seniors Chrislyn Simpson-Kane and Bella Kuailani, who played crucial roles in the win.

Key contributors to the girls’ victory included junior Sochi Henderson, who finished third in the Girls No. 3 division, and freshmen Ayla Daian and Kaja Przecieshowska, who won the No. 2 and No. 5 divisions, respectively. “I like our freshmen— they’re so sweet and talented. I’m definitely going to miss them,” Kuailani added. “Hopefully, this win will motivate them to keep it going.”

On the boys’ side, senior Teiva Keomaniboth completed an undefeated season, winning all eight of his heats across four contests while competing in two divisions. “This team win definitely makes it more special because it’s my last year,” Keomaniboth said. “I shocked myself that I won every semi and final.”

King Kekaulike co-head coach Scott Schellhammer was all smiles after the team’s impressive double win. “What an epic season—great waves, some nail-biting finishes, and a wealth of talent across the league,” he said. “We had a great group of kids in and out of the water. That pretty much says it all.”
