Loveland Ski Area is retiring its oldest chairlift after 42 years of service. On April 23, 2025, the USDA Forest Service approved the replacement of Lift 7, which has been in operation since 1982. The new lift, a Leitner-Poma fixed-grip quad chair, will replace the original fixed-grip double chair.

This upgrade is part of Loveland’s ongoing commitment to improving the experience for skiers and snowboarders, especially beginners. While the new lift will have four seats per chair, it will be intentionally loaded with three people per chair to provide a more comfortable and beginner-friendly experience, particularly when loading and unloading.

The construction of the new lift will take place during the summer of 2025, in time for the 2025/26 ski season. Rob Goodell, the COO and Senior Vice President of Clear Creek Skiing Corporation, stated, “This new lift is all about creating a better experience for our guests. By giving beginners more space to get comfortable loading, we’re helping families and new skiers feel confident from their very first run. It’s an investment in the future of skiing and riding at Loveland.”

Loveland operates under a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service on the Arapahoe National Forest. The Forest Service completed an environmental review of the new lift, ensuring that its construction will have minimal impact on the natural environment. The new lift will be built along the same path as the old Lift 7 to preserve the area’s natural character.

In addition to the lift replacement, Loveland has other projects planned to enhance the skier experience. This summer, the ZigZag trail will be reshaped to improve skier flow and snow retention. Looking ahead to the winter of 2026/27, the resort also plans to develop a new parking lot to ease congestion during peak periods and provide guests with a smoother arrival experience.

For those who will miss the old Lift 7, Loveland is offering the chance to own a piece of history. A limited number of original Lift 7 chairs will be available through a lottery for employees and 2025/26 season pass holders. Due to high demand, chairs will be distributed by random drawing. More details about the lottery will be announced in summer 2025.

Season passes for the 2025/26 season are now on sale, giving guests the opportunity to secure a pass at a lower price and enter the chair lottery.
