As the summer season approaches, ski enthusiasts have largely put away their gear across North America. Currently, only four outdoor ski areas in the United States remain open for skiing and snowboarding. Two of these resorts will close their lifts after June 15, signaling the near end of the ski season.

Colorado’s Arapahoe Basin, the state’s last ski resort operating this season, has paused weekday operations but will reopen for one final weekend from June 13 to 15. During this closing weekend, lifts will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., though no beginner terrain is available. The resort is preparing for what promises to be a memorable farewell to the season.

In California, Mammoth Mountain continues to welcome skiers and snowboarders under clear skies and warm sun. The resort’s closing day is set for June 15. Skiers can expect soft, slushy snow and a lively atmosphere. Currently, lifts running include Broadway Express, Face Lift Express, and Chair 23. Mammoth also offers mountain biking and golf, making it a popular summer destination for a variety of outdoor activities.

Wyoming’s Beartooth Basin, a unique summer-only ski area located along the scenic Beartooth Highway, remains open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The area features 600 acres of skiing and snowboarding terrain with slopes ranging from moderate to steep, between 15 and 50 degrees. Ticket sales are limited, with daily passes priced at $50. If weather conditions hold, Beartooth Basin hopes to keep its slopes open until July 6.

Finally, Oregon’s Timberline Lodge stands as the nation’s last outdoor ski area expected to remain open well into the summer. Skiing and snowboarding continue on the Palmer Snowfield with both public and private lanes available. While no official closing date has been announced, the mountain may operate through August, giving winter sports fans more time to enjoy the slopes.
