Perisher, Australia’s largest ski resort, has received a heavy 65-centimeter snowfall over the King’s Birthday long weekend, jumpstarting its 2025 ski season ahead of schedule. The recent blizzard, combined with favorable snowmaking conditions, has prompted the resort to announce the early opening of key lifts.
Starting Thursday, June 12, the Perisher Quad Express lift will operate up to the mid-station, followed by the opening of the Leichhardt Precinct and its Quad Chair on Friday, June 13. “This storm has kicked the season into high gear, and we’re just getting started,” a Perisher spokesperson said. “Our team is working around the clock, and we’ll continue to open more terrain as soon as it’s safe.”
Perisher covers four resort areas: Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes, and Guthega. Known for its extensive lift system, the resort currently runs four lifts—the Village-Eight Chair, Mitchell t-bar, and two magic carpets—with skiing available only on Front Valley terrain. Crews are actively preparing more areas for opening as conditions allow.
With forecasts predicting more snow and cold weather, Perisher expects to rapidly expand available terrain over the coming weeks. Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to purchase the Epic Australia Pass before sales end on June 18. “With early season conditions this good, you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss out,” the resort added.
This early start sets a promising tone for the 2025 snow season in New South Wales, which traditionally lasts until early October.
