Registration Now Open for Inclusive Outdoor Adventure Series.
WHEATON, MD — Montgomery Parks has announced the return of its popular Roots to Rocks youth mountain biking program, offering children ages six and older the chance to explore local trails while building confidence, skills, and a love for the outdoors. The program is free and open to riders of all levels, with equipment provided for those who need it.
Designed to make mountain biking more accessible and inclusive, Roots to Rocks features a variety of guided trail rides, clinics, and events aimed at introducing youth to the sport. Participants will learn key biking skills including trail etiquette, safety practices, and basic bike maintenance. Along the way, they’ll also enjoy the physical and mental health benefits that come with outdoor activity.
“We want to make mountain biking more inclusive and welcoming,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks.
“Roots to Rocks is about empowering young riders with confidence, skills, and access to the trails—whether they’re seasoned riders or hopping on a bike for the first time.”
The program includes:
- Guided trail rides tailored to each rider’s ability
- Instruction in bike handling, safety, and basic repairs
- Skill-building clinics to boost riding technique
- Group rides to foster camaraderie and teamwork
- Learn-to-Ride events for beginners
- Bike park days to practice in a supportive setting
All events take place on Montgomery Parks trails and are led by experienced instructors. Riders may bring their own bikes or borrow one through the program at no cost.
