Beartooth Basin, Wyoming’s unique summer-only ski area, has pushed back its 2025 season opening by two days. Originally scheduled to open on Memorial Day, May 26, the resort is now planning to welcome guests starting Wednesday, May 28—pending favorable weather conditions.
The delay allows staff additional time to prepare after the seasonal reopening of the Beartooth Highway, which provides critical access to the ski area. The highway is expected to open on Friday, May 23, giving crews several days to set up operations and complete training before the first skiers arrive.
Beartooth Basin, which missed its 2024 season due to low snowfall, is anticipating a return to action this year. The resort plans to run its lifts daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through its scheduled closing on July 6.
Unlike traditional winter resorts, Beartooth Basin operates exclusively in the summer. It offers a rugged, backcountry-style skiing experience across 600 acres of steep terrain. Skiers are transported via two high-speed platter lifts, but will not find typical amenities like base lodges or warming huts.
Lift tickets are priced at $50 per day, while a season pass costs $395—an attractive option for enthusiasts chasing turns during the off-season.
Founded in the 1960s, Beartooth Basin remains a small, independently run operation. Although the ski area was listed for sale in 2024, it continues to serve a dedicated community of summer skiers and snowboarders, seeking new ownership that shares its grassroots vision.
