Queensland’s Top Young Surfers Shine at State Titles on the Sunshine Coast

SUNSHINE COAST, QUEENSLAND (Sunday, 1 June 2025) — Queensland’s top young surfing talent hit the waves this weekend for the opening event of the 2025 Queensland Grommet Surfing Titles. Held at Alex Skate Park Beach, the competition took place in ideal conditions, with offshore winds and clean three-foot waves.

The event brought together standout grommets from the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, all competing for state titles and a spot in the 2025 Australian Junior Surfing Titles, which will take place on South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula.

The Under-12 Girls Division kicked off the finals, with Sage Fleming delivering a commanding performance. Despite tricky afternoon conditions, Fleming outscored her competitors and doubled the points of runner-up Kobi Lana Partridge to take the title.

In the Under-12 Boys final, Flynn Swierczewski clinched a last-minute victory with a strong 7.93 score, just before the buzzer. He edged out rivals Zeph Bartlett, Kuba Crompton, and Ollie Sharpe to win the opening leg of the series.

The Under-14 Girls final faced heavier, more challenging waves, but Navah Holmes rose to the occasion. Her powerful performance earned her the win, setting her sights on the next event of the series on the Gold Coast.

The day wrapped up with the Under-14 Boys final, which featured an intense heat packed with talent. Brandon Davidson emerged on top, beating Tully Crompton, Jaxxon Sands, and Sonny Brooke in a closely fought battle.

Competitors will now prepare for the second event of the series, scheduled for 21–22 June on the Gold Coast. Final results from both events will determine the overall winners and Queensland’s 2025 State Champions.
