STOCKHOLM, Sweden – With the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina still months away, Sweden has announced its first wave of athletes heading to Italy next February — including five standout cross-country skiers who have already secured their Olympic berths.
In a statement released Wednesday, the Swedish Ski Association confirmed that the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) has selected 25 athletes and 12 teams in its initial nomination for the upcoming Games. Among them are three women and two men from Sweden’s national cross-country ski team.
“This is just the beginning of our selections,” said SOK Sports Director and squad manager Fredrik Joulamo. “We expect the final team to include around 130 athletes by February next year.”
The five cross-country skiers named — Jonna Sundling, Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson, Edvin Anger, and William Poromaa — each earned medals at the 2024 World Championships in Trondheim, reinforcing their status as Olympic contenders.
National team manager Anders Byström will also oversee Sweden’s entries in all four relay events scheduled for Val di Fiemme during the Games: the men’s and women’s 4x10km relays, as well as two sprint relays.
