The Winter X Games will return to Aspen Snowmass’ Buttermilk Mountain for its 25th consecutive year in 2026, organizers announced on Tuesday. This marks a significant milestone for the event, which has been a major force in the world of winter sports since its debut in the mountain town in 2002.

For the past 25 years, Aspen has been the backdrop for some of the most groundbreaking moments in skiing and snowboarding. From snowmobiles performing front flips to record-breaking jumps and perfect scores, the X Games has played a key role in pushing the boundaries of these sports.

The 2025 X Games featured remarkable achievements, such as Hiroto Ogiwara landing the first-ever 2340 (6.5 rotations) in Men’s Snowboard Big Air and Miro Tabanelli completing a similar feat in Men’s Ski Big Air. These groundbreaking moments only add to the excitement surrounding X Games Aspen 2026.

The event’s rich history is filled with unforgettable moments, including Simon Dumont’s double front flip Superman in 2009, Shaun White’s perfect 100 score in the superpipe in 2012, and Elena Hight’s first double backside alley-oop rodeo in 2013.

“We are pumped to have X Games return to Aspen for a 25th consecutive year,” said John Rigney, SVP of Business Development at Aspen One. “X Games is the gold standard of action sports, and years of exemplary partnership have defined our storied history together, as well as our mutual commitment to innovation in snow sports and excellence in elevating athletes.”

Since its arrival in Aspen in 2002, X Games has grown into a global winter tradition. The partnership with Aspen Snowmass has created a spectacular celebration of snow sports, progression, world-class athletes, culture, music, and art that continues to draw global audiences.

“This 25th anniversary will honor the legacy of past competitions while spotlighting the innovation and excitement still to come,” organizers said.
