Baseball Roundup: Jamestown’s Dramatic Comeback and Other Key Matchups

In a stunning display at Diethrick Park on Saturday, Jamestown baseball overcame a 6-run deficit to defeat Fredonia 12-8 in a nonleague game. Trailing 8-2, the Red & Green ignited a comeback with a 4-run fifth inning, capped by Blake Smith Jr.’s 3-run double.​

Jamestown sealed the win with a 6-run sixth. Jhensen Cordero’s single scored Karson Milne, Carter Rizzuto walked in the tying run, and Adam Kubera’s RBI single gave Jamestown the lead. Smith Jr. led all players with 4 RBIs, while Rizzuto contributed 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Rizzuto struck out 4 in the first four innings before Kyle Falkowski pitched 3 scoreless frames with 5 Ks.​
For Fredonia, Ashton Putney and Brady Crawford each had multiple hits, including an extra-base hit apiece.​

In Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 action, Clymer/Sherman/Panama delivered a dominant performance, rolling past Pine Valley 15-3. Tate Catanese was the standout player, going 4 for 4 with a double and 4 RBIs.​

Bryce Hinsdale also had a great game, going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scoring four runs. Gavin Burchanowski added 2 RBIs, Max White went 2 for 4, and B Phelps contributed an RBI. Burchanowski was the winning pitcher, striking out nine batters over five innings.​

For Pine Valley (0-9, 0-8), Trent Ivett had a highlight moment, hitting a 2 RBI triple in the bottom of the first inning. Cameron Howard drove him home with Pine Valley’s second and final hit of the game. Although Howard took the loss on the mound, he struck out six batters in three innings. Ivett then came in relief and struck out an astonishing 14 batters over the final four innings, resulting in a total of 20 strikeouts for the team.​

In nonleague action, Springville emerged victorious, defeating Frewsburg 8-3. Grant Michalski led the way for Springville (5-6), going 2 for 4 with a pair of triples and 3 RBIs. Drew Reynolds added a double, and both Carson Glass and Brodie Glass contributed with one RBI each.​

Frewsburg (9-2) managed only three hits in the game. Maddox Sheesley and Gavin Weaver had an RBI each, and Drake Beckstrom hit a double. Daniel Peterson pitched for Frewsburg, surrendering five earned runs and striking out five batters in three innings.​

After a long week, Dunkirk faced a tough 14-1 nonleague loss to St. Francis. The Marauders’ offense struggled, recording just one hit from Thomas Schaffer. Noah Vazquez reached base and scored Dunkirk’s only run.​

Dunkirk (12-2, 8-1) will look to bounce back in its upcoming Senior Game on Wednesday against Jamestown.
