Pemberton Secondary School (PSS) has officially claimed its fourth consecutive provincial mountain biking championship, thanks to standout performances from its athletes during last week’s competition in Powell River, B.C.
The event, held over Thursday and Friday, saw strong individual showings, particularly in the bantam boys cross-country race. Finley Wood captured the gold medal with a time of 22:38.7. Close behind him were teammates Adam Hauk, who took silver at 22:44.5, and Sacha Strajt-Bornik, who earned bronze with a 22:46.5 finish.
Wood also impressed in the enduro event, placing third with a time of 7:41.9. He followed Tide Kruiswyk (7:28.9) and Tanner Ciarniello (7:36.5) to claim a spot on the podium. His combined performances earned him the title of King of the Mountain in the bantam division.
In the junior girls category, Arleigh Kemp placed second in enduro with a time of 8:07.0, sandwiched between winner Jenna Foreman (8:01.2) and third-place Brooke Bates (8:09.5). Although Kemp narrowly missed a medal in the cross-country race, finishing fourth, her overall efforts secured her the Queen of the Mountain title in her age group.
Hayden Pegram brought home a bronze in the senior boys enduro with a time of 8:34.3, joining Mateo Quist (8:19.1) and Rhys Vath (8:20.6) on the podium.
Pemberton Secondary’s junior and senior teams both won in their overall categories, contributing to the school’s dominance at the provincial level.
The event drew approximately 600 riders representing 73 schools across British Columbia, making it one of the most competitive mountain biking meets in the province.
