On Sunday, March 1, 2026, the legendary Vasaloppet will mark the seventh stage of Ski Classics Season XVII. As the third Grand Classics event of the season, this iconic 90-kilometer ski race between Sälen and Mora in Sweden remains the oldest, longest, and most prestigious on the Pro Tour calendar.
Since its first edition in 1922, inspired by Gustav Vasa’s historic 1520 journey, Vasaloppet has become a cornerstone of long-distance skiing. Every year, thousands of skiers—both professional and recreational—gather at the same starting point, aiming to make their mark in ski history. The race draws global attention, blending tradition, culture, and fierce competition.
Last season, Stina Nilsson and Alvar Myhlback took top honors, with Myhlback becoming the youngest male winner in the race’s history. The 2026 race will focus on who can follow in their footsteps and earn a place among the sport’s elite champions.
Tommy Höglund, Vasaloppet’s Sport Director, said, “We’re proud to be part of Ski Classics. The Pro Tour gives us a strong international and national TV audience. We hope to see some fresh Olympic medalists lining up in 2026.”
Challenging skiers with a total elevation gain of 948 meters and a highest point of 526 meters above sea level, the race demands strength, endurance, and smart tactics. The fast-paced mass start and final sprint to Mora test every competitor’s skill.
