Warrenton — At just 8 years old, Chloe Anderson has already made a name for herself in youth snowboarding. Last month, she captured gold in the giant slalom at the United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) National Championships held at Copper Mountain, Colorado.
Chloe, who attends P.B. Smith Elementary, competed in the 7-8 age division. In addition to her gold medal in giant slalom, she earned a silver in slalom and placed fifth in boardercross.
Her journey began in 2021 when she was only 4 years old. Growing up in Brambleton, Chloe enjoyed sledding down hills in her neighborhood. Inspired by neighbors who snowboarded, her parents bought her a toy snowboard to try on a smaller slope. Since then, what started as family fun has evolved into a competitive passion.
“She won a national championship in her favorite event,” said Brian Anderson, Chloe’s father. He fondly recalls her early days learning to ride. “When I took her to lessons, instructors would say, ‘She’s a ripper. She’s so good.’ One even told me, ‘I’ve never seen a 5-year-old like this.’”
Chloe made her national debut last year, finishing second in giant slalom and third in slalom. Her rapid progress surprised coaches and spectators alike. “She shocked everybody,” Brian said. “A month before nationals, she improved dramatically — it was like night and day.”
Despite her competitive success, Chloe’s motivation remains simple. “She mostly is in it for the fun,” said her mother, Monica Anderson. “She absolutely loves snowboarding with her daddy.”
From a playful beginning on neighborhood hills to national glory, Chloe Anderson’s story is one of passion, family support, and early talent on the slopes.
