OCEAN CITY, Md. (June 13, 2025) — A series of surf-themed events are set to hit Ocean City this month, offering something for wave riders and beach enthusiasts alike. The upcoming activities range from a surf film screening to a community-focused weekend of surf contests and gear trading.
The first event takes place Friday, June 13, with the premiere of the surf documentary Surfing Through Time at Seacrets on 49th Street. The film chronicles the history of surfing and surfboard innovation through interviews with legendary surfers and board shapers. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the screening begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door.
The following weekend, June 21–22, brings a trio of events organized by the Ocean City Surf Club (OCSC). The weekend kicks off Friday night, June 20, with a “Legends Party” at Barn 34, located at the corner of 34th Street and Coastal Highway.
The evening will include the announcement of this year’s local surf legends and the presentation of OCSC scholarship awards. Food and drinks will be available for attendees.
On Saturday, June 21, a lighthearted surf team contest will take place on the beach in front of the Castle in the Sand Motel, between 36th and 37th Streets. The competition emphasizes fun and creativity over strict rules or traditional scoring. Surfers are welcome to use any type of surf craft in this relaxed and rare format.
Wrapping up the weekend, a community “surf swap” will be held on Sunday, June 22, at the same beach location. This new addition to the OCSC event lineup offers an opportunity for surfers to buy, sell, or trade used gear. As a first-time event, organizers are curious to see how well it will be received.
Whether you’re interested in surf history or looking to connect with Ocean City’s surf culture, these events offer a unique way to engage with the community. Attendees are encouraged to join one or all of the festivities to support local surfing and celebrate the coastal lifestyle.
