As the winter season wraps up on May 4, three major ski resorts in France have announced their summer skiing schedules for May, June, and July.
Les 2 Alpes is taking over the title for the longest ski season in France, following Tignes’ shift from being open year-round to a more limited operation. Starting on May 5, Les 2 Alpes plans to remain open for more than seven months. It will be the only French resort open for skiing from early May until mid-June. The resort will offer skiing on 1,000 vertical meters from 3,600m to 2,600m until May 28. Afterward, from May 29 to July 6, the skiing area will be reduced to a 400m vertical range at the top, from 3,600m to 3,200m. The resort will also operate its summer snowpark from May 5 to July 6.
Val d’Isère will offer summer skiing on its Pisaillas glacier for four weeks, from June 7 to July 6. This tradition, which started in the 1960s, continues with skiing on three runs located between 3,300m and 2,725m. The Montets drag lift will reach the highest point at 3,197m. The resort will provide parking at the glacier’s base, with access via the Col de l’Iseran, where guests can find a lift pass sales office and a restaurant.
Tignes will be the last French resort to open for summer skiing. The Grande Motte glacier will operate from June 21 to July 20, with slopes between 3,456m and 2,724m. The resort will offer up to 20km of glacier runs, as well as cross-country skiing, and visitors can enjoy the sun at the Panoramic terrace once they finish skiing.
