Staff members from CR Civil Engineering in Ripley are celebrating the company’s 25th anniversary by taking part in a 13,000-foot tandem skydive.
Jack Fox, Luke Ball, and Tom Sheldon will face their fears while raising funds for the Royal Papworth Charity. This charity supports the work of the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, Royal Papworth Hospital, located in Cambridge.
The idea for the skydive came from Catherine, the company’s Training Manager, and her son Stephen, a Site Manager. They planned the jump at Sibson Airfield in Peterborough on Friday, June 6.
In 2023, Catherine’s husband John received a double lung transplant at Royal Papworth Hospital. Before the transplant, John suffered from severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He depended on home oxygen therapy, which means he had to breathe oxygen-enriched air through a mask or tube connected to a device in his home, 24 hours a day, every day.
Catherine said, “What better way to mark CR Civil Engineering’s 25 years than by facing our fears with a skydive and raising money for Royal Papworth Hospital. The hospital saved John’s life, and now we want to help other patients get a second chance.”
Zoe Noyes, Community Fundraiser at Royal Papworth Charity, congratulated the company and thanked the team for their support. “Happy 25th anniversary to CR Civil Engineering, and a huge thank you to the tandem skydive team. Thanks also to everyone who has donated so far. Your kindness helps us support the hospital in delivering top-quality care and developing new treatments for heart and lung diseases.”
