Greek athlete Nikolas Plytas has achieved an unprecedented milestone in the world of foil surfing. After six months of relentless effort and more than 800 attempts, he successfully landed the world’s first-ever double backflip on a hydrofoil board.
This remarkable feat represents a major breakthrough in aerial foilboarding, pushing the sport into new territory. Plytas, known for his skills in waterskiing, snowboarding, and foil surfing, focused exclusively on mastering this trick for half a year.
On Instagram, Plytas described the challenge as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life” and celebrated the achievement as “the world’s first double backflip in foilboarding.” He added, “Over the past six months, I gave everything to this trick. Every time I was on the water, my only focus was landing it.”
The double backflip on a foil board is extremely difficult and risky. It requires flipping twice while balancing on a board equipped with a hydrofoil. Despite the dangers, Plytas’s determination to push the limits of what is possible on water paid off, setting a new standard for the sport.
