Argentina’s Lucía Cosoleto and Peru’s Tamil Martino emerged victorious in the Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Surf categories at the South American Junior Championship, each winning gold in their respective divisions. Cosoleto’s win marks Argentina’s second gold of the competition, while Martino’s triumph gives Peru its fifth.
Despite the waves being relatively small, consistent head-high sets rolled in throughout the day, providing excellent conditions for the finals.
Cosoleto secured her first South American title by defeating one of her main rivals, Vania Torres. The SUP Surf category made its debut at the event this year, making Cosoleto’s victory a historic one for Argentina.
In the men’s division, Tamil Martino won a closely contested final marked by intense action and a critical interference call late in the heat. Gabriel Salazar of Chile, who had been performing strongly and was in second place, caught a long wave but crossed paths with Martino, who held priority. Judges called interference against Salazar, which impacted the final standings.
As a result, Argentina’s Geronimo Rogers moved into second place, followed by Colombia’s José Ignacio Tapia in third. Salazar finished fourth after the interference penalty.
