Ashton International College Ballito’s surfing team delivered an outstanding performance at the KwaZulu-Natal Schools Surfing League Championships in Durban last Friday, June 6, claiming second place overall and securing a spot at the national finals later this year.
The standout achievement came in the girls’ individual event, where Ashton surfers swept the podium. Catherine Jacob took first place, followed by teammates Frances Wang, Coco Clark, and Lola Wang, marking an all-North Coast finish. In the boys’ category, Zak Tredoux also impressed, earning a third-place finish in the individual rankings.
Thanks to these strong individual showings, Ashton’s first team secured second place in the team competition held at Dairy Beach. The school’s second team finished eighth overall, also demonstrating solid depth in their squad.
Their performance guarantees Ashton a place in the South African Schools Surfing Championships set to take place later this year.
Netball Team Falls Short at DStv Schools Challenge
Ashton’s 1st team netballers faced a tough outing at the 2025 DStv Schools Netball Challenge held at Hoy Park in Durban on Saturday, June 7. Despite strong efforts, the team was unable to secure a win in the regional competition.
Twelve schools competed for three available spots in the national finals, which will be hosted at Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen in Boksburg from July 25 to 27.
Ashton fell 12-27 in their opening match against Shayamoya Area Secondary School. In their second match, they were defeated 16-29 by Isikhalisezwe High School. As a result, the team will not advance to the national stage this year.
Soccer Team Narrowly Defeated in KZN League Clash
In school soccer action, Ashton’s boys team traveled to Queensburgh on Thursday, June 5, for a KZN Schools League fixture against Amanzimtoti.
The match was closely contested, but Amanzimtoti managed to edge out Ashton with a 2-1 victory, handing the Ballito side a narrow defeat.
