Lake Louise Woman Dies in Backcountry Skiing Fall Near Moraine Lake

A 34-year-old woman from Lake Louise has died after falling a considerable distance while backcountry skiing near Moraine Lake, Alberta.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from Lake Louise RCMP. The woman was skiing in the backcountry area of the Canadian Rockies when she fell.

Rescue teams from Alpine Helicopters used a longline to extract her from the remote location. STARS air ambulance also responded to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead at the site.

Moraine Lake is located about 15 kilometres south of Lake Louise. The RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall.
