MINTURN, Colo. — Young cyclists will take center stage on Wednesday, May 21, as the Vail Recreation District hosts the Minturn Mini Youth Mountain Bike Race, the opening event of the 2025 Bloch Ongert Mountain Bike Race Series.
Open to riders ages 5 to 17, the race will be held on the Minturn Mini Mile circuit, with categories covering distances from one to six miles based on age and ability. All races will begin and end on Cemetery Road, directly in front of the town cemetery.
Younger participants will ride the traditional one-mile “Mini Mile” beginner loop, while older racers will take on the extended 1.4-mile route, which includes additional segments through the Minturn Bike Park.
Race day festivities will include awards, raffles, and prizes at the finish line. Organizers encourage participants to preregister online at register.vailrec, though day-of registration will also be available. On-site bib pickup begins at 3:45 p.m., with race start times scheduled for 4:45 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m., depending on racer category.
Parking for the event will be available at the Little Beach Amphitheater. Event staff will be on-site to assist with directions.
The Minturn Mini is presented by Yeti’s Grind and the Town of Minturn. Entry fees are $15 for preregistered riders and $21 for same-day registration. The full youth race series is available for $92. Preregistration for each race closes at 5 p.m. the day before the event.
The Vail Recreation District recently launched a new registration system. All participants will need to create a new account at register.vailrec.
Racers are not required to register for the full series to participate in the Minturn Mini. All youth riders are welcome.
The full 2025 Bloch Ongert Mountain Bike Race Series continues on May 28 with the Eagle Ranch Classic in Eagle.
