Sault Ste. Marie is preparing to host an exciting weekend of mountain bike racing on June 28 and 29. The Skeeter Slam Ontario Cup #4 will take place at Hiawatha Highlands, attracting riders of all skill levels.
Cindy Pruce from the Sault Cycling Club said the event is not just for elite racers. “The Skeeter Slam OCup #4 Mountain Bike Race Series offers a chance for riders of every ability to experience Ontario Cup racing,” she explained. “We are very excited to bring this event to Sault Ste. Marie.”
The weekend features races for novice riders under 11 years old, as well as categories for senior, elite, and expert riders.
Events begin with a course pre-ride on the evenings of June 26 and 27. Full racing takes place over two days.
On Saturday at 5 p.m., there will be a pump track event open to all ages. No registration is needed to participate.
Pruce added, “With race categories for all ages and skill levels, from youth to elite competitors, this event promises a memorable weekend of competition and community.” She encouraged spectators to come enjoy live racing, local food vendors, and a lively festival atmosphere. “It’s a must-attend event for cycling fans and outdoor enthusiasts alike.”
The courses include options for all ages and abilities. They range from shorter routes to a marathon course. The trails at Hiawatha Highlands are known for their fast flow, scenic forest paths, and exciting descents.
“We are proud to bring top-level racing to Northern Ontario,” Pruce said. “Whether you are racing, cheering, or just enjoying the excitement, the OCup in Sault Ste. Marie is an event you won’t want to miss.”
