Djarrak / Bells Beach will once again welcome Australia’s top Indigenous surfers as the 2025 Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles, presented by Rip Curl, return from May 30 to June 1 for the 12th straight year.

Surfers from across the country — including Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia — will compete at one of the world’s most iconic surf breaks on Wadawurrung Country.

Surf Coast Shire Council Mayor, Cr Mike Bodsworth, said the event is significant not just for surfing, but for cultural connection.

“We’re thrilled to host the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles on Wadawurrung Country,” he said. “Bells Beach holds deep cultural importance for the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners. This is a special opportunity for surfers and spectators alike to connect with Country at one of the world’s most iconic waves.”

Multiple-time Indigenous Open Champion Russ Molony, from the Central Coast in New South Wales, is eager to return.

“This is my favourite time of the year — being with our Mobs, celebrating culture, and surfing Bells,” he said. “It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Adding to the stakes, both Open Champions will earn wildcard entries into the Australian Surf Championships later in the year.

Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson said the event has become a cornerstone of the national surfing calendar.

“Hosting the Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles at Djarrak for the 12th year is something we’re extremely proud of,” he said. “It’s one of the most anticipated events each year. I’m looking forward to seeing the best Indigenous surfers from across the country take on the Bowl.”

The event will officially begin with a Welcome to Country ceremony led by Wadawurrung Traditional Owners at 7:30 a.m. on May 30. The ceremony is open to all.

The Australian Indigenous Surfing Titles are presented by Rip Curl and Headsox, with support from the Victorian Government, Surf Coast Events, VicHealth, Surfing Australia, Play It Safe by the Water, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, Indigo Print, Jessi Rebel Art, Cancer Council Sunscreen, Feed Me Surf Coast, and Surf Better Now.
