A charity focused on suicide prevention is inviting residents of County Kildare to take part in the Skydive for Life fundraiser to support their initiatives. Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland (YSPI) has set a fundraising target of €600 for each participant, which covers the cost of the skydive. There is no registration fee required to join the event.
YSPI explained the importance of the fundraiser, highlighting the alarming suicide rates in Ireland, particularly among young males under 21. According to the organization, young people, even as young as nine years old, have tragically taken their own lives. The group stressed that the actual rates could be even higher and that no school or community is untouched by the loss of someone to suicide.
“Skydiving is a thrilling experience, offering participants a chance to freefall through the clouds and take in the breathtaking Irish countryside,” said YSPI in a statement. “By participating in Skydive for Life and raising sponsorship, you will be directly supporting our programs for 2025 and beyond.”
Given the significant rise in mental health challenges since the Covid-19 pandemic, YSPI emphasized that all funds raised from the event will be directed towards its Youth Crisis Counselling Service. This service offers fast, free access to local counselors and psychologists for young individuals in crisis or at risk of self-harm or suicide.
The event is scheduled for August 2, 2025, but participants can arrange their skydive for any weekend that suits them, subject to availability. All jumps will take place at the Irish Parachute Club in Clonbullogue, County Offaly.
YSPI encourages everyone to take part in this life-changing initiative to help support young people in need.
