As the North American ski season winds down, most local and spring skiing resorts have closed for the year. However, five ski areas across five states remain open, offering lift-served skiing and a variety of terrain options. If you want to get in a few more runs before summer arrives, here’s where you can still ski.

Beartooth Basin, Wyoming

  • Closing date: July 6
  • Open trails: 9 out of 9 (100%)
  • Aspect: Mostly north-facing
  • Summit elevation: 10,900 feet

Beartooth Basin is unique as North America’s only summer-only ski area. The nearby Beartooth Pass Highway opens around Memorial Day, allowing skiers access for about a month before the resort closes in early July. Skiers from neighboring states come here to finish race training or practice jumps off cornices. The area has parking at the summit and operates two short surface lifts.

Mammoth Mountain, California

  • Closing date: June 15
  • Open lifts: 4 out of 24 (17%)
  • Open trails: 31 out of 178 (17%)
  • Aspect: North, northeast
  • Summit elevation: 11,053 feet

Mammoth is famous for its long spring season. Thanks to heavy snowfall at its high elevation in the Eastern Sierra, the resort often keeps lifts running into summer. Some years it stays open until August, but this year it plans to close by June 15. There’s still time to enjoy skiing on popular areas like Cornice Bowl.

Arapahoe Basin, Colorado

  • Closing date: June 8 (open June 6-8 only)
  • Open lifts: 2 out of 9 (22%)
  • Open trails: 13 out of 147 (9%)
  • Aspect: North, northeast
  • Summit elevation: 12,456 feet

Known as “The Legend,” Arapahoe Basin consistently offers Colorado’s longest ski season. The resort aims to open early and close late every year, and this season is no different. It will remain open through June 8, with top-to-bottom skiing available via the Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Express chairlifts.

Timberline Lodge, Oregon

  • Closing date: To be announced
  • Open lifts: 2 out of 7 (29%)
  • Open trails: 6 out of 31 (19%)
  • Aspect: South
  • Summit elevation: 8,540 feet

Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood is usually the last outdoor ski area to close in the U.S. Heavy snowfall combined with snow farming helps keep the resort open through August. Late summer sees many race camps using the terrain, which is mostly groomed runs on the Palmer snowfield.

Big SNOW American Dream, New Jersey

  • Open lifts: 1 out of 2 (50%)
  • Open trails: 4 out of 4 (100%)

Big SNOW American Dream is an indoor ski area that operates year-round. Although smaller than mountain resorts, it offers an option for people near New York City to ski without traveling far or flying. The resort holds mogul weekends every month and features a permanent terrain park. It is cooled to 28 degrees Fahrenheit and uses only natural snow, so this is not a place for beachwear or tropical wax.
