Cape Byron Student Mali Adam Selected to Compete in Japan Surf Event

Cape Byron Steiner School student Mali Adam has been selected to represent Australia at the prestigious Stab High Japan 2025 surfing competition, set to take place this May. The Class 8 student will test her skills against some of the best junior surfers in the world at the PerfectSwell Shizunami wave pool.

Mali will compete in the ‘Ladybirds’ division, a category for female surfers under 15. She is entered in the “Highest and Best Air” contest — a highlight of the event known for showcasing progressive surfing and aerial maneuvers.

Fresh from her recent victory at the SanBah Cadet Cup in Newcastle’s Bar Beach, Mali continues to build on a string of strong performances that have marked her steady rise in the junior surfing ranks.

“I’m just really excited to be heading over to Japan,” she said. “It’ll be amazing to surf with such a great crew. I’m sure I’ll come back with some wild stories — and hopefully land some good airs!”
