Hawaiian Surfer Posts Highest Women’s Heat Score of 2025 Season.
The 2025 World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour Lexus Trestles Pro witnessed a standout performance on Wednesday as Hawaii’s Bettylou Sakura Johnson recorded the highest women’s heat total of the season.
In a commanding quarterfinal appearance, the 20-year-old surfer outclassed fellow competitor and 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Caroline Marks. Johnson delivered a trio of powerful rides, scoring 8.83, 8.00, and an impressive 9.00. Her top two rides gave her a combined heat total of 17.83 — the highest posted by any woman on the Championship Tour this year.
With the win, Johnson advanced to the semifinals, where she is set to face wildcard Sawyer Lindblad. Marks, who managed only an 8.70 in the quarterfinal, was eliminated.
Johnson’s semifinal opponent, Lindblad, has also turned heads in California after defeating current world No. 1 Gabriela Bryan. Lindblad posted a strong 15.50 in their quarterfinal heat, easily outpacing Bryan’s disappointing 5.17.
Should Johnson overcome Lindblad, she will move on to face either Caity Simmers or Molly Picklum in the final — both top contenders on the Championship Tour. Johnson is chasing her second CT win of the season, having already claimed victory at the Bonsoy Gold Coast Pro earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the men’s quarterfinals continue, with elite surfers still battling for a place in the semifinals. As the Trestles Pro progresses, the level of competition remains intense and unpredictable.
